Nowadays, one of the key terms we hear about in fitness is the importance of having a strong core. So, what do we mean by exercising the core muscles? In a nutshell the term “core” is used to describe the muscles in the lower trunk area that work together to provide support and mobility. These muscles include the abdominals (rectus abdominus, obliques, transversus), erector spinae, found behind your abs, multifidus and the hip flexors which support the pelvic area. Basically, your core is the centre of your body and exercising this area helps the skeleton, muscles and joints work together properly.
It’s not just when exercising that you use your core muscles, everyday tasks involve using it, like gardening, changing nappies, putting away the shopping. So the stronger your core, the more efficient you will become and the less likely to be injured.
At the studio, we offer classes which focus on core stability exercises, helping to strengthen this important area.
One excellent core stability class on offer is the Pilates chair. The chair is used to help sculpt long lean muscles while strengthening and defining the core.

With a strong core, you can achieve a lot more!
